Il permet de caractériser les sols ou les roches par la surface spécifique développée par les particules constitutives du matériau (argiles minéralogiques, grains de quartz, etc.)

Principe

Un échantillon de sol ou de roche est soumis à une adsorption de gaz en condition de basse température (azote liquide) permettant le calcul de la surface spécifique développée par cet échantillon.La détermination de la surface se base sur l’analyse de l’isotherme d’adsorption déterminant le volume de gaz adsorbé en une mono-couche.Le volume de cette mono-couche est calculé selon l’équation BET (travaux de Brunauer, Emmett et Teller).

La première étape est le dégazage de l’échantillon, qui peut être de plusieurs heures, la deuxième étape est l’analyse.
Les résultats sont exprimés en unité de surface par gramme déchantillon (m2/g).

Echantillons

Les échantillons de sol sont soit tamisés, soit sous forme d’agrégats, séchés à 105 °C puis mis dans des tubes échantillons.
