Océane Lierhmann

Doctoral student

Océane’s PhD project aims to study the interplay of personality, stress and cognition in Asian elephants using behavioural experiments. This involves studying the working timber elephants from the Myanmar population. This semi captive population have been monitored for decades and this provides Océane with the opportunity to work on a large number of animals for which there are full veterinary records. Improved understanding of elephants’ behaviour should provide knowledge and thus enable collaborative work with the local population to adapt training methods and improve the welfare of working elephants.
