The "Trees and Responses to Water and Environmental Constraints" team is an INRAE Sub-Contracted Unit (USC 1328) for the 2012-2016 empowerment. As such we are identified by the acronym ARCHE.
The team's work is based on the theme "Trees' Response to Environmental Constraints". The main objective of the team is to develop an integrated approach to the physiology of poplar in the face of variations in water availability. It is approached through several disciplines, ecophysiology and molecular biology, and extends to all levels of study, from populations to molecules. The scientific objectives of the project focus on water use efficiency and the response to variations in water availability in cultivated (P. x euramericana and P. x interamericana hybrids) and wild poplars (P. nigra: poplarnigra.orleans.inra.fr). They can be divided into 4 categories:

  1. Ecophysiology: study of the genetic variability of water use efficiency and drought tolerance.
  2. Proteomics: identification of proteins that can be associated with water use efficiency and drought tolerance.
  3. Epigenetics: study of the epigenetic control of the developmental plasticity of the poplar vegetative apparatus in response to drought.
  4. Signalling: study of the perception and transduction of the drought signal.
